Kirsten Wiig officially joins the cast for Anchorman sequel

anchorman4112012Scheduled for release in December 2013: Anchorman. The Legend Continues, the much anticipated sequel to the 2004 film Anchorman, seems to be a project that is rapidly gaining momentum. While die hard Anchorman fans are waiting with baited breath to hear more about the plot of the film, the movie’s writers, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, are doing their best to keep details of the project under wraps.

This week, however, not even McKay could contain his excitement, announcing on Twitter that Bridesmaids writer, and Saturday Night Live veteran, Kirsten Wiig, has officially joined the already all-star cast, which includes Ferrell, Steve Carrell, David Koechner, Paul Rudd, and Christina Applegate. Rumours have been circulating in Hollywood since December last year that Wiig was being considered to play a possible love interest of Carrell’s character, the dim-witted, but loveable, Brick Tamland. Whether that’s the role that Wiig ends up playing or not, the movies writer’s have certainly succeeded in landing another big draw card for the project.

Shooting for Anchorman: The Legend Continues is set to begin later this month, with the film being released in December, later this year. As with any huge project, the rumours in Hollywood abound. With a large proportion of the original cast already confirmed to be reuniting for the Paramount Pictures sequel, fans wait on tenterhooks to hear if anymore of the old favourites will make a last minute appearance, with Vince Vaughn already dropping hints that he could be set to reprise his role as Ron Burgundy’s rival news reader, Wes Mantooth. In the meantime we’ll just play a few more rounds of video poker!

J.J. Abrams is to direct the new Star Wars film

In a joint press release from Disney and LucasFilm on Saturday, the rumours have been confirmed that J.J.Abrams will take the director’s chair for the next instalment of the Star Wars saga, due for release sometime in 2015. “To be part of the next chapter of the ‘Star Wars’ saga, to collaborate with Kathy Kennedy and this remarkable group of people, is an absolute honour,” stated Abrams upon release of the news.

star_2461897bAbrams made his name on the TV Shows Alias and Lost, before finding big screen fame thanks to his involvement in films such as Cloverfield, Star Trek and Super 8.It is a remarkable turn of events for both the director and the franchise as Star Wars creator George Lucas has always maintained that there would be no more films following the first six. That stance changed last year when Disney bought LucasFilm for a mooted $4 billion (wish we could make that from online poker, see playvideopoker.info) and quickly announced that a trilogy of new films, carrying on the story post Return of the Jedi, were in the pipeline.

At this point Abrams’ name was first mooted as a director but initially the director claimed he was too big a fan of the series to take on the responsibility of directing any sequels. But the lure of continuing the Star Wars story to a new generation of fans looks to have been too much to resist.

Star Wars creator George Lucas approved of the choice stating; “I’ve consistently been impressed with J.J as a filmmaker and storyteller. “He’s an ideal choice to direct the new ‘Star Wars’ film and the legacy could not be in better hands,” he remarked.
